Band Instrument for Easy Scholarship

I’ve been in band since middle school and I was wondering if any of the instruments stand out as being 'easier' to nab a college scholarship with?

Certainly, there may be instruments that offer more scholarship opportunities simply because they are less commonly played, and thus, competition might be less fierce. However, it's important to emphasize that any scholarship will require a high level of skill and dedication to the instrument.

Instruments such as the bassoon, oboe, tuba, and French horn are typically less common in many high school bands and orchestras, which may result in more scholarship opportunities since these instruments are often in high demand in college ensembles.

In addition to the instrument you play, keep in mind that scholarships often consider a range of factors, including your musicianship, academic performance, leadership abilities, and community involvement.

Remember to research each college's music department or school of music for specific details about potential scholarships. It does vary widely by school, and some schools may offer more generous scholarships or have more openings for certain instruments.

In every circumstance, though, the key to earning a music scholarship will be your performance skill and commitment to your instrument. So, while it could be beneficial to play a less common instrument, your passion for and dedication to your music will ultimately be what shines through in your application and auditions.
