Hi everyone! Future Houston Community College student here, and super anxious about picking my first-year classes. If you attended, do you remember which classes were comparatively easier? I really just want to ease into the college routine with a manageable workload.
Hey there! It's great that you'll be starting at Houston Community College after high school. Ease is relative to your skills and interests, but that said, many students find introductory classes in subjects they're already comfortable with to be a pleasant way to transition to college.
Perhaps if you excelled in English or History in high school, you might begin with a basic writing or history class. If you have an aptitude for math, an entry-level math class could provide a familiar space as you navigate the new college environment.
Scheduling is key. You may want to spread out your workload over the week to avoid having too many tough classes in one day. Bear in mind your most productive times during the day, too. If you're not a morning person, avoid scheduling early morning classes, and vice versa.
Don't forget to balance your schedule, too, with a few gen eds and then one or two classes in your proposed major, if you have one in mind. Remember, the goal is to dip your toes into college life first and adjust comfortably rather than diving headfirst into a hectic schedule. Good luck with your first year!
