Hey guys, I'm considering joining the military after high school, but I'm a bit worried about the ASVAB. Do each of the branches have significantly different score requirements? Which branch might be more lenient score-wise?
The required ASVAB scores do vary by each branch of the military. The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) helps determine what jobs you qualify for in the military, and each branch has its own minimum standards.
You'll find that nearly all the branches (Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force) have a minimum score of 31. The one exception is the Coast Guard which requires a score of 40 as the minimum.
The newly established Space Force, being under the Department of the Air Force, likely follows similar standards to that branch's requirements.
Keep in mind, though, that these are the minimum scores to qualify for entry. The higher your score, the more job opportunities will be available to you in your chosen branch. Also, each job within the various branches has its own ASVAB score requirements, so it's a good idea to have a sense of what role you might want to take on and look up the specific score requirements for that position. Certain highly specialized roles may require particularly high ASVAB scores.
