Colleges with the easiest workloads?

I'm one of those students who's more focused on experiential learning and extracurricular activities, so I'm looking for colleges that maybe work a little differently and do not overwhelm students with academic workload. Anyone have recommendations?

While many colleges offer rigorous academics, there are indeed schools that have curriculums designed to foster independent learning and personal development. Here are a few you might consider:

1. Brown University: At Brown, you can create your own degree path via the Open Curriculum, which allows you to take any courses that interest you without traditional core requirements. Because of this, you might find the workload manageable as you're studying topics you're genuinely interested in.

2. Evergreen State College: This public liberal arts college has a more non-traditional approach to education. It's known for its narrative evaluations instead of traditional grades and its full-time coordinated studies. This setting can lead to a proactive, self-set pace for learning.

3. Hampshire College: Like Evergreen State, Hampshire replaces traditional majors with self-made projects and coursework determined by student interests and goals, culminating in a year-long thesis or project.

4. Sarah Lawrence College: Here, course curriculum is determined by 'dons', faculty advisors who work with students one-on-one to craft an individualized program of study. This allows a degree of freedom in choosing courses of interest.

Remember, just because these colleges might offer less traditional, and potentially less strenuous, academic programs doesn't mean they won't be challenging in their own unique ways. A lighter traditional academic workload can provide extra time for engaging deeply in extracurriculars and practical learning experiences.
