Enlisting in the Space Military Branch - is that a thing?

Alright, so here's a wild thought: Can someone just up and decide they want to enlist into the Space Branch of the military, whatever that would look like? Has anyone heard anything about this?

Absolutely, enlisting in the U.S. Space Force, the "space branch" of the U.S. military you're referring to, is indeed a possibility. Founded in December 2019, the Space Force is the newest branch of the U.S. military and its mission is to organize, train, and equip personnel to defend U.S. and allied interests in space.

To enlist in the Space Force, you need to meet specific requirements, similar to those for enlisting in other military branches. These requirements include being between 17 and 42 years old, being a U.S. citizen, having a high school diploma (or equivalent), and passing the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test. This test measures your abilities in sections like general science, arithmetic reasoning, and mechanical comprehension, to name a few.

While duties in the Space Force could range widely, some of the roles include space operations including (but not limited to) maintaining satellites and monitoring space debris, as well as cybersecurity, intelligence, and engineering. It's an interesting and still evolving path so it may present unique opportunities for those interested in aerospace. If you're seriously considering it, I'd recommend reaching out to a military recruiter for more precise information about the enlistment process and training.
