How Many Branches in U.S. Military?

Quick question, I'm considering joining the military after my senior year, but I'm a bit lost with how many branches there are in the U.S. military. Like, is it just the Army, Navy, and Air Force or are there more? Any help would be super appreciated!

The United States military is divided into six branches. These branches include the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and as of 2019, the newest branch is the Space Force.

The Army is responsible for land-based operations and is the oldest branch of the military. The Navy is tasked with maintaining freedom of the seas, deterring aggression, and achieving victory at war. The Air Force defends American values through control and exploitation of air and space. The Marine Corps serves as an amphibious force-in-readiness and often works in close cooperation with U.S. naval forces for training, transportation, and logistics.

The Coast Guard is multi-mission and maritime focused. They're responsible for maritime law enforcement, homeland security, search and rescue, and disaster response.

Last but not least, the newest addition to the military is the Space Force. The Space Force protects U.S. and allied interests in space. This includes everything from monitoring ballistic missile launches to tracking space debris, and maintaining satellites that allow the other military branches to communicate.

Remember, each branch has different responsibilities and opportunities for service. And, the Army National Guard and Air Force National Guard, while not separate branches, are reserve components of their services and operate in part under state authority. It's best to explore a bit and see which one aligns most with your interests and career goals. Hope this helps!
