If I missed the PSAT, is there a way to make it up?

I wasn’t able to take the PSAT on the official test date due to a family emergency. Does anyone know if there’s a makeup day or a way to still take the PSAT, or do I have to wait until next year? Feeling a bit stressed because I wanted to qualify for National Merit.

Firstly, I'm sorry to hear about your family emergency and hope things are getting better. Unfortunately, the PSAT/NMSQT is offered officially only once a year in October, with a primary test day and an alternate test day. If you missed both, there isn't an option for an individual makeup. However, if you are not yet in your junior year, you will have another chance to take it next year for National Merit qualification purposes.

The College Board does offer the PSAT 10 and the PSAT 8/9, which are designed for sophomores and 8th/9th graders respectively, but scores from these tests are not used for National Merit Scholarship consideration. That said, taking these tests can still provide valuable practice and insight into your testing abilities.

For now, focus on your strengths and consider other aspects of your college application that you can bolster. Look at preparing for and taking the SAT or ACT, as strong scores on these tests can also contribute positively to your college and scholarship applications. Remember, the PSAT is just one component of your college admissions journey, and there are many other opportunities to shine.
