Low-Stress Speech Class Recommendations?

Yo, so I'm not huge on public speaking, but my college requires a speech class. Anyone have recommendations for what the easiest speech class in college might be? I just want something that won't stress me out too much. Thanks!

Firstly, I want to applaud your proactive approach to finding a class that suits your needs. Public speaking can be intimidating for many people, but can also be a great skill to have.

Now, regarding your question, the difficulty of a speech class largely depends on the professor and the course curriculum, which can vary even within the same course title across different colleges and even different sections at the same college. Therefore, the "easiest" class might really depend on your college courses' offering.

However, some general tips can help you find a more manageable course. Firstly, when you're looking at the course catalogue, keep an eye out for classes that advertise a small class size or supportive environment. Courses that emphasize peer review, self-reflection, or one-on-one feedback can also often provide a low-stress learning experience as they allow you to grow at your own pace.

Secondly, look for course descriptions that specify various types or styles of speech, as opposed to classes focused solely on traditional persuasive or informative speeches. There are often classes that incorporate more casual types of public speaking, such as storytelling or discussion leading, which may help ease your concerns.

Lastly, you might want to check if there are speech classes that are tied to specific subject matters you are interested in (e.g., "Speech in Digital Media" or "Rhetoric in Film Studies"). If you're speaking about something you're genuinely interested in, it can make the speaking part less stressful.

Remember, each class is what you make of it. Regardless of which course you select, look at your public speaking requirement as a way to grow, not just something to tick off your list. Good luck with your course selection!
