Surviving College Algebra – Looking for Recommendations

Alright, math isn't exactly my strong suit, but I have to take college algebra for my degree. I was wondering, does anyone know which schools have a reputation for a passable (I'm talking B- or higher) college algebra class?

You're definitely not alone in wanting to navigate "college algebra" as smoothly as possible. However, it's not always easy to say which universities or colleges have the 'easiest' courses because a lot depends on the individual professor as well as your own study habits and personal grasp of the subject material. What seems 'easy' to one student might not to another.

Certain colleges like Western Governors University have competency-based learning models. In this, you're allowed to move through the coursework at your own pace, taking the time you need on difficult concepts and progressing more quickly through those you understand well. This might be a fit for you if you're looking for a more flexible approach to algebra.

Keep in mind though, if you are looking to transfer your algebra credits to another school, it's important to ensure that credit will be accepted.

Online courses might also be a good fit for you. Some students find that being able to re-watch lectures and take the class at their own pace can be very helpful. Just make sure that the course you take is accredited and will be recognized by your university.

Lastly, an often overlooked resource is the tutoring services that most colleges provide. These can be incredibly helpful in understanding and mastering difficult concepts. It might help to look at which colleges provide the best tutoring resources for their students.

Nevertheless, it is a good idea to speak with an academic advisor about your concerns—they can provide more personalized advice based on your specific circumstances.
