Easing into College Level Science

I need to take a science course next semester at ECU and I'm not confident in my strengths in the field. Which science classes are considered the least demanding?

While the level of difficulty for a course can greatly depend on your individual strengths, completed high school coursework, and the specific professor teaching the class, I can share some frequently recommended classes for students who are not natural science majors at many universities.

Geology or Earth Science classes are often good places to start. They usually cover a broad range of topics and often have interesting labs associated with them. Another course that students sometimes find more accessible is Astronomy, although it can require some basic math skills.

Introductory Biology or Introductory Chemistry might be a potential fit too, especially if a version is offered specifically for non-science majors.

However, it's crucial to remember that 'least demanding' can be extremely subjective and depends on your interest in the subject matter, comfort level with the topic, study skills, and the teaching style of the instructor.

My suggestion would be to also check out course syllabi if they're available and student reviews of the class and professor if you can find them. This information can provide further insight into the demands of the course and the teaching style of the professor, which can be very influential in dictating how you experience the class.

Also, consider where your interests lie. It's commonly easier to engage with a course and achieve more if it's a subject that intrigues you. Even if it's outside of your comfort zone, curiosity can serve as an excellent motivator!

Lastly, remember that universities usually offer various resources like tutoring services or study groups to help you succeed in any class you take. And don't hesitate to reach out to the professor or teaching assistant—that's what they're there for! They can provide extra help and guidance throughout the semester to ensure you understand the material.

Good luck! You're capable of more than you think, and taking a science class might introduce you to a new topic you enjoy.
