Considering the Military: Which Branch is the Most Female-Friendly?

Hi there, I'm currently a junior and exploring all paths for my life after high school. I'm really intrigued by the military, but as a young woman, I'm a bit nervous. I was wondering, which branches are considered to be the most female-friendly? Thanks for any advice!

While all branches of the U.S. military have made significant strides in creating more inclusive environments, certain ones tend to stand out for their progressive policies towards women.

The Air Force consistently leads among all branches with the highest percentage of women enlisted and officers. They've been proactive in integrating women into all roles, rank positions, and fields, including combat operations and piloting roles.

The Navy also maintains a significant percentage of women and has substantively integrated women into nearly all facets of naval operations. Recently, the Navy has increased the role of women in submarine operations, a position previously only open to men.

The Army and Marine Corps have a lower percentage of women, but they have made notable advancements in women's equality and integration as well, opening up all combat roles to women.

The Space Force, the newest branch of the military initiated in 2019, is rapidly growing and opens up lots of opportunities for women in the advancing field of space research and defense.

All that said, the "most female-friendly" branch is relative to your personal interests, skills, and career goals. What you want to do in the military could largely dictate which branch is most suited to you. Consider talking to recruiters from different branches, and maybe even consider speaking with women who have served or are currently serving in each branch.

Remember, choosing to serve in the military is a significant commitment and should be thoughtfully considered. Making sure it aligns with your personal goals, lifestyle preferences, and values is crucial. Good luck with your decision!
