Which Military Branch is Best for Nursing?

Hi all. I'm very interested in nursing and am exploring the idea of the military as a way to both serve my country and get into my desired field. Does anyone know which military branch would be the most beneficial for a nursing career?

The military can indeed be an excellent pathway to a nursing career, and each branch - Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and the recently established Space Force – has unique characteristics. However, the Army and the Navy are typically considered the best branches for healthcare professionals, including nurses.

In the Army, nurses are officers, and you could start as a Second Lieutenant right after obtaining your nursing license. Moreover, the Army Nurse Corps offers tuition reimbursement, a sign-on bonus, and the opportunity to further your education while serving. They also have the F. Edward Hébert Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program which covers tuition, offers a monthly stipend, and gives a bonus for qualified nurses.

On the other hand, the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps is also a fantastic choice. The Navy Nurse Corps offers similar programs and benefits as the Army, but nurses in the Navy have the unique opportunity to serve on hospital ships, which can provide humanitarian assistance. This could be the right fit for you if you're interested in global healthcare.

While the Air Force also has a nursing corps, it's usually considered less combat-focused and more geared towards research and teaching.
