ASVAB Scores and Military Branch Selection

Hey, pals! I'm prepping for the ASVAB and I was wondering if there's a military branch that requires the highest scores? I'd like to set a challenging target for myself. Thanks for your advice.

Hello! The ASVAB scores are indeed used by all branches of the military to determine eligibility and aptitude for different roles. However, there isn't necessarily one branch that requires higher scores across the board.

The branches do have minimum scores for enlistment, though these minimums can change based on the needs of the military. Here's a general idea of the minimums, as of my most recent information:

- Army: 31

- Navy: 35

- Marines: 32

- Air Force: 36

- Coast Guard: 40

- Space Force: Currently uses Air Force enlistment scores

But please note these are just minimum scores to be eligible to enlist in each branch, and higher scores will potentially grant you broader opportunities in terms of jobs or specialties within each branch.

Say, for example, someone wanted to be in cyber operations in the Air Force. That specific job category (General - "G" on the ASVAB) requires a score of 64. Or, if someone wanted to be an Operational Intelligence Specialist in the Navy, they would need to score high on the "OAR" sections (Officer Aptitude Rating), which include verbal and quantitative tests.

So, rather than focusing on a specific branch for high scores, it would be more beneficial to identify a job or specialty you want to target, and aim to score high in the categories that specialty uses. Good luck on your ASVAB!
