Which Military Branch is Ideal for Future Engineers?

Hey guys, I'm really considering a career in engineering, but I also want to serve in the military after graduating high school. Any ideas which branch would offer me the best opportunities? Would one stand out as particularly good for engineering types?

All branches of the military have opportunities for engineers, but the Army Corps of Engineers (a part of the US Army) and the Naval Civil Engineering Corps (a part of the US Navy) are known for their focus on engineering. Here's what you might expect in each:

The Army Corps of Engineers is a major branch of the US Army. It's primarily responsible for designing and building infrastructure not only in the United States, but also abroad. The Corps builds everything from roads and bridges, to flood control systems, to helping restore ecosystems. As an engineer within the Corps, there are multiple specialties you could focus on including environmental, mechanical, civil, and electrical engineering.

On the other hand, the Naval Civil Engineering Corps are the Naval construction force of the Navy. The Civil Engineering Corps officers are professional engineers that lead construction efforts in the naval service including planning, designing and executing construction projects. You'll work hand-in-hand with enlisted Seabees who are the construction workforce of the Navy.

There is also a space for engineers in the US Air Force, as aerospace engineering. This could involve designing aircraft, spacecraft, and satellites, and testing their systems.

In any case, I will recommend that you research each branch's engineering opportunities, consider what type of engineering you might be interested in, and talk to recruiters or other military personnel to gather as much information as you can. The right path will depend on your personal interests, career goals, and lifestyle preferences.
