How does a 1240 PSAT score stack up?

Hey everyone, I just got my PSAT score back and it's a 1240. Feeling a bit unsure about it. Is a 1240 considered a good score for the PSAT? I'm trying to gauge where I stand and what I should aim for when I take the SAT. Also, would this score be competitive for the National Merit Scholarship? Thanks in advance for any insights!

It's great that you're already looking at your PSAT score with an eye towards the SAT and potential scholarship opportunities. A 1240 is a solid score that means you're doing well, especially since the PSAT is designed to be a preliminary gauge of how you might perform on the SAT. Most students typically see an improvement on their SAT scores with further study and preparation, as the SAT is taken later in your high school career when you've had more time to learn and grow academically.

As for the National Merit Scholarship, the qualifying score can vary from year to year and by state but is usually above the 1400 mark. That said, it's an excellent opportunity to set that as a target for your SAT preparation. Look into resources like Khan Academy that offer free, personalized test prep to help you improve your score. Keep up the hard work, and good luck!
