Why doesn't Georgetown use the Common App?

Hey everyone, I was just about to start working on my college applications, and I realized that Georgetown University has its own separate application process. Can someone explain to me why Georgetown opts out of the Common App system that most other schools use? Is there something specific that they're looking for that the Common App doesn't provide? Curious to know because it adds extra work to the application grind.

Hello there! It's definitely an additional step to tackle applications that aren't part of the Common App, but there are reasons for this.

Georgetown values a unique application process to attract students who are genuinely interested in their specific institution. By having their own application, they encourage applicants to put in that extra effort, which can be seen as a testament to their interest in the school.

Additionally, their separate application allows for more customization in terms of the information and essays they require, which helps them to better understand the applicants from their unique perspective.

So while it may seem like a hassle, think of it as an opportunity to really demonstrate why Georgetown is the right fit for you. Just make sure to manage your time well and plan ahead, so you can give their application the attention it deserves. Good luck!
