Choosing College Majors: Easy VS Hard

Hi everyone, I'm currently a high school junior and I've been thinking a lot about potential college majors. I came across an article about 'the easiest and hardest college degree majors of 2018', but I'm not sure how much to take it into account. Should I base my decision on these 'general' perceptions of difficulty, or focus more on what I'm actually interested in?

It's best to focus more on your actual interests and career goals when choosing a major. While it is essential to understand the rigor and demands of various degrees, aligning your passion, skills, and career aspirations should be the primary factors when deciding on a major. That's what can really propel you through challenging times and ensure you have the dedication and interest to excel.

For example, an 'easier' major that doesn't interest you or align with your goals may lead to less satisfaction overall. Meanwhile, you could find a 'harder' major more appealing if it's tied to something you love or see a future in. It's key to balance the demand of the major with your inherent skills and qualities.

Also remember, the perceived difficulty of a program can vary from person to person. A course that one person finds easy may be arduous for another, depending on their aptitudes and interests.

Ultimately, you should certainly do your research about potential majors, including consulting such lists or rankings, but take these with a grain of salt. Make sure to consider course curriculums, faculty, job placement, and what alumni of the program have gone on to do. Reach out to current students or alumni of prospective colleges to understand their experiences too.

Remember, college is a time for growth and exploration. Most of the time, you will not need to declare a major immediately, so you'll have the chance to take some courses and see what truly aligns with your interests and career goals.
