Articulating Key Club Leadership Experience in Common App

Hey all, as a Key Club president, what's the best way to articulate my leadership and volunteer experiences on the Common App? I've planned numerous events and have a lot of volunteer hours but I'm not sure what aspects are most impressive to admissions officers. Insight from anyone who's been in a similar position would be super helpful!

It's terrific that you've recognized the value of your Key Club leadership and want to convey it effectively! When it comes to articulating your experiences in Key Club, consider highlighting the impact of your events rather than just listing what you've done.

For instance, did your events significantly increase club membership or raise a record amount of money for a cause? Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to provide a structured and impactful narrative: Describe the situation (e.g., low engagement in club activities), your task (e.g., planning and promoting an event), the actions you took (e.g., coordinating with businesses for sponsorships or managing teams), and the results (e.g., doubled attendance, raised funds). Quantify your achievements when possible, and don't forget to reflect on what you've learned through these experiences.

Admissions officers appreciate applicants who can demonstrate personal growth and the ability to affect change, so illustrating how you've developed through your presidency can be particularly compelling.
