Best military branch for a career in cyber security?

Hi, I'm a junior interested in cyber security and I'm considering joining the military to help further my career. Anyone have suggestions on which branch would be the best bet for this field?

From the perspective of developing a career in cyber security, the Air Force and the newly formed Space Force stand out because of their high emphasis on technology and cyber operations.

The Air Force has a Cyber Command which is exclusively dedicated to dealing with the domain of cyberspace and digitized warfare. They offer a career path titled "Cyber Surety" 3D0X3, where you would be responsible for preventing, detecting, and repelling cyber attacks on Air Force databases and infrastructure. It would be a hands-on, applied job that would provide you with in-depth experience and skills in cyber security.

Moreover, the Space Force, which was formed as a branch of the military in 2019, also emphasizes cyber security due to the high reliance on digital and satellite technologies. Despite being the newest branch, the Space Force has significant cyber commands and is expected to grow its cyber efforts in the foreseeable future.

However, keep in mind that all branches of the military have occupations in cyber security and similar fields, as this is a growing concern across all sectors. The choice of branch can come down to cultural differences and your personal interests beyond just the job title. It would be beneficial to research and talk to recruiters from each branch to learn more about life on and off duty before you make a decision.

Regardless of the path you choose, a military background in cyber security can provide a strong foundation for your career in the civilian sector. The hands-on experience in protecting systems from cyber threats and forensic analysis can be highly valued in a wide range of private and public-sector organizations.
