Safest military branch - opinions?

Hi, I'm considering joining the military after graduating high school, but safety is a big factor for me. From your perspectives, which military branch is considered the safest to join?

IT's important to understand that all military branches inherently involve some risk factor due to the nature of their duties and the unpredictability of global events. However, some branches may pose less exposure to direct combat scenarios compared to others.

The U.S. Coast Guard is often seen as one of the safer branches when compared to the others. While their role is crucial, their primary missions involve maritime law enforcement, search and rescue, and maritime homeland security. However, they still train for combat and can be deployed in times of war, but their main duties are typically less combat-oriented relative to other branches.

The U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy are also seen as safer due to advancements in technology reducing the risk of direct combat. Many positions in these branches are support and intelligence-based, with less infantry-focused roles. For instance, roles in the Air Force include pilots, air traffic controllers, engineers, and cyber security specialists among others. Navy positions can be on a ship, submarine, or even shore-based.

However, keep in mind that safety can vary greatly within each branch depending on the chosen field or Military Occupational Specialty (MOS), which involves everything from medical and legal roles to combat arms and special operations.

Remember, it's important to align your decision with your personal goals and interests, rather than solely basing it on perceptions of safety.
