ASVAB Scores: What's Required?

Hey guys, I'm considering joining the military after graduation, but I'm a little lost on how the ASVAB works. Does anyone know what the average ASVAB scores for different military branches are? I'd really appreciate any info you guys could give about this.

The ASVAB, or the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, is used by the U.S. military to evaluate the strengths and potential of those entering the service. The multiple-choice test is divided into eight areas, including general science, mathematics, word knowledge, and others. What you need to know is that each branch of the military has its own minimum ASVAB score requirement - this score is known as the AFQT (Armed Forces Qualification Test) score which is a composite of the scores from four sections: Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, and Word Knowledge.

Here's what you need to remember for the different branches. Remember, these are minimum scores, so aiming higher is always a good strategy!

1. Army: The minimum AFQT score for enlistment in the Army is 31. This is for high school graduates.

2. Navy: Candidates for the Navy must achieve at least a 35, but certain jobs demand higher scores.

3. Marines: Potential Marines need to score at least a 32.

4. Air Force: The Air Force requires an AFQT score of at least 36, but the average recruit scores significantly higher, around 50.

5. Coast Guard: This branch has one of the highest minimums – a 40 is required for those with a high school diploma.

6. Space Force: This branch falls under the Department of the Air Force, therefore, the ASVAB requirements would likely mirror those of the Air Force.

It's essential to prepare for the ASVAB to make sure you qualify for the branch you're interested in, and to open up as many job opportunities as possible within that branch. Good luck on your journey to joining the military!
