Considering Army ROTC, Specifically Infantry

Ok, so I was thinking about doing ROTC in college and maybe going into Military Intelligence. Does anyone have any idea how that would work with army ROTC branching? Is it tough to get into? Anyone with experiences that they can share?

Certainly, I can help clarify the ROTC process for you. In Army ROTC, cadets typically conduct branching towards the end of their junior year or beginning of their senior year. This process usually involves assigning you a branch based on your preferences, Officer Evaluation Reports, physical fitness scores, and academic performance.

Military Intelligence is considered a competitive branch due to its unique scope and opportunities but doesn't mean it's impossible to get into. If you're really committed to pursuing Military Intelligence, it would be beneficial to demonstrate and develop your leadership skills, maintain high academic performance, and aim to excel physically to make your application stand out.

Regarding experiences, some cadets have shared that creating a strong rapport with ROTC cadre and expressing sincere interest in the desired branch can work in their favor. Besides, getting involved with extracurricular activities relevant to your career aspirations could also be beneficial.

Also, remember that after graduation and commissioning, all new officers, regardless of their ROTC branch, typically attend the Basic Officer Leadership Course for further orientation into their assigned career fields and responsibilities. This is where you’d really get your specialized training in the Infantry or Military Intelligence.

I hope this provides some clarification, and best of luck in your Army ROTC journey!
