Military branches and intelligence quotient

Out of curiosity, anyone knows if there are average IQ stats associated with each branch in the military? Not trying to stereotype anybody, just genuinely curious!

I appreciate your interest and curiosity about the topic. However, it's important to clear up one common misconception right away. When it comes to the military, they don't actually use the IQ test as a measure of a person's cognitive abilities, but rather the Armed Forces Qualification Test (AFQT).

AFQT scores are mainly derived from four areas of the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery): Arithmetic Knowledge, Mathematics Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, and Word Knowledge. The AFQT measures the aptitude and ability to learn in various areas which are considered necessary for success in the military, rather than more general cognitive abilities like an IQ test would.

The AFQT can help in assigning individuals to certain positions based on their strengths and potential for learning specific professional skills. However, a higher AFQT score does not imply higher intellectual capacity outright, but rather a propensity for understanding and acquiring new knowledge in a military context.

Moreover, it's important to note that each branch of the military has varying standards and requirements, including differing minimum AFQT score requirements for enlistment. Some positions or specialties within each branch may require higher AFQT scores than others, which could perhaps lead to a variation of averages within each branch. But this does not necessarily equate to IQ.

All in all, while there are certain types of knowledge and reasoning that are tested and measured toward military service, it's not quite accurate or fair to try to equate military branch with IQ. Each branch of the military values a broad range of skills, abilities, and attributes, all contributing to the diverse and effective force they form.
