Hello everyone, sorry if this comes across as naïve. I'm a junior in high school right now and I'm seriously considering a military career for stability and discipline. However, I am a little lost as to which branches of the military are open and welcoming to women? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
You're not being naïve at all! It's a valid question and I'm glad to share that all branches of the United States military are open to women. This includes the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and even the recently constituted Space Force.
Each branch offers a wide variety of roles, from combat positions to support roles in areas like medicine, logistics, intelligence, and technology. All combat roles across all branches were officially opened to women in 2016.
While all branches are open, keep in mind that different branches have varying lifestyle implications and specific roles, so it’s important to do your research and speak to recruiters to determine what might be the best fit for you personally.
Remember also to consider your long-term goals. Military service can often provide extensive training and experience in a variety of fields. If you have a particular career path in mind post-military, that might also influence which branch you choose, based on the opportunities they offer that align with your interests and ambitions.
Best of luck as you explore your options!
