Graduating the USMMA via other military branches - is it possible?

So, I've been looking at the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) as a post-high school option. Would anyone happen to know whether it's possible to graduate USMMA through another branch of the military?

Absolutely, you can commission into one of the other branches of the military after graduating from the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA). Students who graduate from the USMMA do have an obligation to serve in the military following graduation but that can be in any branch they choose. They have a variety of options available, including serving on active duty in one of the armed forces as an officer.

When studying at the USMMA you are preparing for a commission in the United States Maritime Service, but upon graduation you can opt to serve in any one of the other six branches of the U.S. military instead - Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, or Space Force. Your choice will typically be influenced by your personal interest, career goals, and the opportunities available to you in each branch.

However, it's also worth noting that unlike other service academies, USMMA graduates have a little more flexibility with their service commitment. They can also choose to serve five years in the maritime industry and eight years in the reserves. This is just another option to consider if you are more interested in a civilian maritime career but still want the experience and education provided by one of the service academies.
