Ability to create a military branch - can political parties do it?

Just trying to wrap my head around the structure of the military. I got to wondering, do political parties have any authority when it comes to creating a new military branch?

The establishment of a new military branch is not a power given directly to political parties but is actually the purview of the federal government. In particular, the U.S. Congress holds the power to create new branches of the military under its constitutional authority to "raise and support armies."

This process includes legislation being introduced, passed through both chambers of Congress, and then signed into law by the President. For example, the creation of the sixth military branch, the Space Force, resulted from a bipartisan agreement in Congress that was signed into law by the President.

While members of specific political parties may introduce or support the legislation to establish new branches, the power to actually create the branch does not lie with the political party itself, but within the broader legislative process. Therefore, political parties don't create military branches, but their members in Congress play an instrumental role in the process.
