Duration of the PSAT: What's the consensus?

Calling out to all who've survived the PSAT, I need your wisdom! Exactly how much of my life will be devoted to this test on the day? Just need a rough estimate so I can plan the rest of my day!

Hey there! I'm glad you're reaching out to plan your PSAT day—it's always good to be prepared. The PSAT is a bit of a marathon, but isn't too bad. The test itself is 2 hours and 45 minutes long. However, this doesn't include the time it takes for instructions, breaks, and getting settled in before the test starts. Typically, you should plan a chunk of about 3.5 to 4 hours from arrival at the testing center to when you walk out the door.

Now, for the rest of your day, it's tough to predict exactly when you'll be free since different schools might start the test at slightly different times. Your best bet would be to keep your schedule light post-PSAT to give you some breathing room. If your test is in the morning, you might have the afternoon free—perfect time to relax or catch up on anything you’ve set aside. Good luck, and remember to breathe and take it one question at a time!
