Which College at University of Wisconsin-Madison is the Easiest to Get into?

Wisconsin high schooler here, seeking advice. UW-Madison is big on my list, but I'm unsure of how my application profile is going to fare. Are there any colleges within the University that might be easier to get into than others?

Many students may wonder if the selectivity of the University of Wisconsin-Madison varies by the college they apply to. However, it's important to know that at UW-Madison, because undergraduate admissions decisions are made at the university level rather than the college level, they don't generally accept students based on their intended major or the specific college they want to join.

That being said, the university does consider the match between your academic interests and the programs that UW-Madison offers, when making admissions decisions. Therefore, expressing an interest in a unique or less popular program might be advantageous, but it should still align with your academic history and demonstrated interests.

For example, if you've shown an interest in history through your coursework and extracurriculars, it might not seem genuine if you apply for a major in Engineering. It's best to choose the college and major that best fits your interests and strengths.

Remember that UW-Madison looks at many factors when reviewing applications, including high school record, standardized test scores, leadership qualities, talents, extracurricular activities, and the personal essay. They're interested in well-rounded students who will contribute positively to their campus community.

Even though certain programs may be more impacted than others (such as Computer Science or Business), your major is not the deciding factor in whether you are admitted to the university. Rather, admissions officers are looking for students who reflect the values of the institution and demonstrate potential for personal and academic growth. Therefore, it's crucial to showcase your best attributes and experiences in your application and essays. Good luck with your application!
