Easier Admissions at Different UW (University of Washington) Colleges?

Greetings! I've been dreaming of attending University of Washington since forever, but I'm kinda concerned about acceptance rates. Are there specific colleges within UW that are known to have slightly easier admission processes?

Hello! The University of Washington (UW) has a holistic admissions process and does not have differing acceptance rates per its individual undergrad colleges. When you apply to UW, you're not initially applying to a specific college or major; you're applying to the university as a whole. After you're accepted and start your studies, you'll then choose your major and gain admission to the specific college that houses that major.

That being said, the competitiveness to get into specific majors can vary. Some are considered "open majors" and can be declared anytime, while others are "minimum requirement majors" and have prerequisites but do not require an additional application. Lastly, there are "capacity-constrained majors" which have limited spots, require an additional application, and are generally more competitive. This includes certain programs like Computer Science, Business Administration, and Bioengineering.

Nonetheless, it is important to note that choosing a college or major based on its presumed ease of admissions is not the most beneficial strategy. Students should pursue areas of study they are genuinely interested in and passionate about. But, understanding the competitiveness of your intended major is a good idea as it may inform other parts of your application, like your essays. For instance, you might want to make sure your essay clearly demonstrates your interest and preparedness for a highly competitive major.

UW is a large research university with many top-ranked programs, and getting in will mostly depend on the strength of your application overall, including your academic background, essays, letters of recommendation, and demonstrated interest in your intended area of study.
