Easiest major at Syracuse University

Hey all, I'm heading to college this fall and I am not sure what to major in at Syracuse. Any ideas on what some of the 'easier' or less intensive majors might be? I'm just trying to balance academic work with extracurriculars and a potential part-time job. Thanks!

Your choice of major should ideally be guided by your areas of interest and your future career goals, rather than which may be considered the "easiest". That being said, it can be helpful to pursue a discipline which aligns with your natural abilities to ensure a more balanced college experience.

At Syracuse University, it's important to note that the intensity of a major can vary based upon individual aptitude and interest. What seems 'easy' for one student might be challenging for another based on their strengths and weaknesses.

However, some students report that majors in the College of Arts and Sciences, such as Social Work, Sociology, and Communication and Rhetorical Studies tend to be less intensive while still providing valuable career skills. In the School of Education, majors like Health and Exercise Science, Music Education or the Inclusive Elementary and Special Education might also be worth considering if these align with your interests.

Bear in mind that though these majors might appear less intensive based on certain metrics (like amount of reading or lab work), every major will have unique challenges and will demand a manageable amount of effort to succeed.

Also remember there's nothing wrong with changing your major if you find that your initial choice doesn't suit your interests or career goals. Having a conversation with an academic advisor can help you make a more informed decision, considering your interests, career goals, and academic strengths. Lastly, no matter which major you choose, good time management strategies will be key in balancing academic work, extracurricular activities, and a part-time job.
