Miami University: Easier Major Options?

I'm planning on attending Miami University next year, but still figuring out which major to chose. Could anyone advise me on which majors are commonly considered easier or less rigorous at Miami University? Thanks in advance!

When choosing a major, it's crucial to prioritize your interests, strengths, and career goals over perceived easiness. However, it's also understandable to want to know what you're stepping into in terms of academic rigor. At Miami University, the difficulty of a major can depend on your own abilities and aptitudes. That being said, it's worth noting that some majors tend to have a reputation for being more "manageable" than others - but these perceptions can vary depending on who you ask.

General studies majors such as Liberal Studies and Interdisciplinary Studies allow for a more flexible curriculum and could be perceived as less intense, given that they allow you to choose different topics that may align better with your personal interests and strengths. In a similar vein, some students find that majors in areas such as Communications, Sociology, or certain humanities disciplines might provide more balance and flexibility than some more specialized or technical fields.

That being said, every major has its own unique challenges and thorough study is expected in each one. For example, the reading and writing load can be quite intensive in some humanities or social science majors, even if they have fewer lab hours or less math than a science or engineering degree.

Remember, what might seem easy to someone else might not feel that way to you if you're not genuinely interested in the subject. Choosing a major should be a balance between feasibility and passion - study what interests you and what you can imagine spending a lot of time exploring in depth. Even the easiest major can become challenging if you're not excited about the courses and the subject matter.

It could be helpful to chat with academic advisors, faculty, and existing students in the majors you're considering to get a sense of what each major truly entails. Luckily, most colleges, including Miami University, allow a little time before you have to officially declare your major, so you have some time to experience different classes and disciplines to see what truly resonates with you.
