Hey guys, I just took the PSAT as a freshman and scored a 1220. I’m wondering if this is a solid starting point? Also, how much improvement can I reasonably expect over the next couple of years?
Hello! Absolutely, a 1220 PSAT score as a freshman is quite commendable. It's a solid foundation that you can definitely build upon. Over the next couple of years, with focused preparation, it's reasonable to expect a significant improvement.
Students often raise their scores by honing their test-taking strategies, improving their time management, and reinforcing their grasp on challenging content areas. A student I advised last year improved their score by 200 points from their freshman to junior year by consistently practicing and engaging with the material.
Keep in mind that the PSAT also serves as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) in your junior year, so continuing to work on your score could open up scholarship opportunities down the line.
Keep up the good work and maintain a positive attitude towards your test prep!
