Easiest sports to get a women's college scholarship?

Hey everyone, I’m a female high school junior considering using sports as a possible way to score some scholarship money. Can any of you shed light on which sports are generally easiest when it comes to earning a scholarship for women at the college-level?

When considering college scholarships for women's sports, it's important to consider several factors, such as the number of scholarships available, the sport's popularity, and the level of competition in the sport. However, it's also important to remember that playing a sport you don't enjoy purely to earn a scholarship might not be the best approach.

Firstly, NCAA Division I colleges tend to offer the most athletic scholarships. Among these, headcount sports, where the NCAA mandates that each scholarship be a full ride, could provide a better chance of receiving a decent scholarship. Women's headcount sports at the Division I level include basketball, tennis, volleyball, and gymnastics.

Another sport to consider is rowing, mainly due to the high number of scholarships available. Unlike headcount sports, rowing is an equivalency sport, meaning that colleges can divide the scholarships however they choose. But since many high schools don't offer rowing, athletes from other sports often walk on and can earn themselves a scholarship through hard work and training.

Track and Field, as well as Cross Country, are other sports with a high number of scholarships that can be awarded as partials. This potentially leads to a greater number of scholarship recipients, however, because of the high participation rate, competition can be fierce.

Similarly, soccer and softball have a reasonably high number of scholarships, but again, keep in mind that these sports are popular and highly competitive.

While field hockey or golf might seem like less competitive options, they typically provide fewer scholarships, so the competition can still be fierce. Sports like ice hockey and lacrosse offer a reasonable number of scholarships and might be considered less competitive depending on your region.

In the end, the "ease" of obtaining a scholarship can vary greatly depending on multiple factors - your individual skill level, the sport's popularity in your region or state, and the specific colleges you're interested in. It certainly helps to excel in your chosen sport and show dedication and leadership both on and off the field. But remember, you should enjoy the sport you play!
