Rigorous School Admission by State

Hey everyone, I've been trying to get a better understanding of the admission processes of different universities. Specifically, I'm curious about the hardest universities to get into by state in the U.S. Anyone got some info or a list to share?

While I'm not going to list the most rigorous school for all 50 states, I'm able to share a handful of prestigious institutions known for more selective admissions in their respective states.

Starting on the west coast, in California, Stanford University and Caltech are renowned for their competitiveness. Moving north to Washington, the University of Washington, particularly its Computer Science department, has quite selective admissions.

In the Midwest, the University of Chicago in Illinois is known for its rigorous criteria for admission. The same goes for Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

On the east coast, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University in Massachusetts, Princeton University in New Jersey, and Yale University in Connecticut are all famously tough to get into.

You would typically evaluate the competitiveness or rigor of the admission process at a given institution based on factors like their acceptance rate, the average SAT/ACT scores of accepted students, GPA, and caseload. Please note that while I've mentioned a few, there are many more colleges across the U.S which have stringent admission processes. And remember, "toughest" to get into isn't necessarily synonymous with "best fit" for you. It's always healthy to aim high, but focusing on colleges that offer the best personal and academic fit should come first. Good luck!
