Colleges Known for Their Tough Application Processes?

Hey everyone, I'm a junior preparing for college, and I'm curious about which colleges are notorious for having particularly tough application processes. I'd like to prep myself for the challenge that lies ahead! Appreciate your feedback.

Sure, there are several colleges that come to mind when thinking about a complex application process.

MIT's application is known to be quite rigorous. They have a unique application that cannot be completed through the Common App or Coalition App, and they ask questions that delve deep into your academic and extracurricular experiences. It incorporates both short answer prompts and longer essays that are unique to their application.

The University of California (UC) system has a unique application as well. You have to answer Personal Insight Questions, which require you to write short essays on specific prompts. As of now, it's not on the Common App which means you have to do a separate application.

Applying to military academies such as the United States Military Academy (e.g., West Point) and the Naval Academy can also require a lot of effort. This is not only due to the application itself, but also because you need to secure a nomination, usually from a member of Congress.

Georgetown University also stands out. Like MIT, Georgetown does not use the Common App and has its own application. They also ask for a Secondary School Report and additional school-specific essays.

Then, there's the University of Chicago. Known for its quirky and creative essays, its supplement can be challenging but is also an opportunity to display your creativity and unique thinking.

Lastly, while the individual applications may not be disproportionately harder, applying to Ivies and other highly selective institutions often requires a very thorough and polished application, given the competitiveness of the pool.

Just remember to take one step at a time and review each application requirement thoroughly. Good luck!
