Six Branches of the US Military

Hey! I know about the main branches of the military (Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard), but I read somewhere there's a sixth branch? Can anyone clarify what the six branches of the US military are?

Absolutely, I'd be happy to clarify. The six branches of the U.S. Military are the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and the Space Force.

The Space Force, officially known as the U.S. Space Force, operates under the Department of the Air Force. It became the sixth military service branch when it was established in December 2019. The Space Force is responsible for organizing, training, and equipping personnel in order to protect U.S. and allied interests in space. Their tasks include monitoring ballistic missile launches, tracking space debris, and maintaining satellites that facilitate communication among the other branches of the military.

So when you're thinking about the U.S. military, it's not just those on the ground, sea, or air anymore – there's also a focus on space given its increasing strategic importance.
