What are the easiest sports to join in college?

I've been interested in taking up a sport when I go off to college but I'm not exactly very sporty. Are there any sports that are relatively easy to get into at the college level? I just want to stay fit and make new friends!

Joining a sports team in college is an excellent way to stay fit and make new friends. When trying to determine which sports would be easier to get into, it really depends on your individual interests and talents. However, typically, less competitive and more inclusive sports are more welcoming to beginners. Let's look at a few possibilities:

1. Rowing/Crew: Many universities have novice teams for those interested in rowing, making it a sport that's easy to get into if you enjoy being on the water. It's a great full-body workout and fosters a strong sense of teamwork.

2. Ultimate Frisbee: Ultimate Frisbee is a fun, non-contact sport which often attracts those who might not typically consider themselves athletes. Most colleges have intramural or club teams, and the rules are fairly easy to pick up.

3. Cross Country: While running can be physically demanding, cross country is often open to students of varying fitness levels, as the goal is typically improving over time. It's a great way to stay in shape and explore your campus and the surrounding area.

4. Intramural Sports: Many schools have intramural leagues for sports ranging from soccer to basketball. These are non-competitive and aim to involve as many students as possible. It’s ideal for those looking for a low-pressure atmosphere to practice a sport they love or try an entirely new one.

5. Recreational Sports Clubs: Recreational sports clubs exist at most schools and include a wide variety of activities, such as hiking, cycling, or even yoga. While these might not be 'traditional' sports, participating in these clubs can have similar benefits in terms of fitness and community.

6. Martial Arts: If you're interested in non-traditional sports, martial arts are often welcoming to newcomers and require no prior experience. Some examples can be aikido, judo, karate, or tai chi.

But remember that 'easy' is subjective— it really depends on what you enjoy and where your natural abilities lie! The most important thing is that you're enjoying yourself and benefiting from the physical activity, the teamwork, and the camaraderie that come with participating in sports.
