What are the toughest majors in college?

Hey folks, I'm currently a rising junior and starting to consider what I want to study in college. I've heard some majors are incredibly rigorous, so I'd like to know: what are generally considered the hardest college majors and why? Please keep in mind that I understand 'hard' is relative and often depends on personal interests and strengths, but I'd like to get a sense of commonly challenging disciplines.

In terms of perceived difficulty, some of the commonly mentioned challenging majors often fall within STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields. Here's a brief overview of why some of these are considered difficult:

1. Engineering: The breadth of material covered can be overwhelming, with large amounts of math and physics. It often involves heavy project workload and lots of time in the lab.

2. Physics: Physics requires highly complex mathematical calculations and abstract problem solving. It's a subject notorious for theoretical assignments and lab work that can be time-consuming.

3. Mathematics: This major involves high-level math learning, including Abstract Algebra and Real Analysis. The abstract and complex concepts can be challenging to comprehend.

4. Chemistry and Biochemistry: Both involve a lot of lab work, which can be time-consuming, and complex topics like Organic Chemistry.

5. Biology: Biology majors often have a high volume of information to memorize and conceptualize, from details of cellular processes to understanding ecosystems.

6. Computer Science: This major requires learning programming languages, understanding algorithms, data structures, and complex problem solving. It is known for long coding assignments and projects.

7. Pre-Med: Not necessarily a major but a track, pre-med coursework can be challenging because it involves taking many science classes, large quantities of memorization, and maintaining a high GPA for med school admissions.

Remember that the difficulty of these majors can depend on the individual program and your own strengths and interests. For instance, if you have a strong aptitude for math and enjoy problem-solving, you might find math or engineering less intimidating than someone with different interests or strengths. Additionally, your professors and the resources available at your university can play a significant role in how manageable the coursework is. You should choose a major based on your passions and career goals rather than its perceived difficulty.
