PT in Non-Army Military Branch DEPs?

Hey guys, I'm considering enlisting straight outta high school. I was talking to a friend in the Army's DEP who was saying they do PT. Do the other military branches' DEPs also do PT, or is this an army thing?

Absolutely! Physical fitness is a fundamental aspect of serving in any branch of the military, not just the Army. The DEP, or Delayed Entry Program, provides potential recruits with a period of time before they officially begin training to gradually adjust and prepare themselves for the demands of military life. This can include physical training in varying degrees, depending on the branch.

For instance, the Air Force and Navy also provide physical training opportunities in their DEP. Without getting into specifics as these may vary by recruitment station, typically, you'll find group PT sessions, running clubs, and guidance on training regimes to ensure you meet fitness standards before shipping out to basic training. This gives recruits a sense of the physical fitness levels required and helps in their adjustment process.

As a potential recruit, it’s beneficial for you to engage in regular physical training regardless of whether it's structured or on your own. It can help ease your transition into military life and help you meet the physical standards required for your chosen branch. Keep in mind each branch has its own physical standards and requirements, so it’s essential to familiarize yourself with those related to your specific branch. Having this focus on fitness during the DEP can prove incredibly beneficial for your basic training and beyond.

Lastly, remember to take advantage of the resources offered by your recruiter and the DEP. They can often provide helpful guidance on training routines and strategies to meet and exceed the fitness standards required. You might want to contact your local recruitment officer to gain a more accurate understanding of what the DEP involves in your chosen branch.
