The Military and Civil Affairs

I'm currently a high school junior and I've been considering the military as an option after graduation. I noticed that there's a field called Civil Affairs (CA) in the military. Does every military branch have CA roles? Any shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Civil Affairs (CA) is primarily a function of the United States Army, specifically the United States Army Special Operations Command (USASOC). Civil Affairs officers and enlisted soldiers are responsible for mitigating or negating civilian interference with military operations, supporting nation-building and reconstruction efforts, and liaising between the military and civilian institutions and agencies.

In addition to the Army, the Marine Corps also has a Civil Affairs group, but it's much smaller. This group generally focuses on maintaining relationships with civilian populations in areas where Marines are operating.

The other branches - the Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Space Force - do not typically have roles titled "Civil Affairs," but each certainly has roles that involve coordinating with civilian organizations and authorities, domestically and abroad. It's worth noting that the specific job responsibilities can vary significantly between branches and units.
