What's the hardest major to pursue in university?

I'm preparing for college and I want to take up a challenging major. I've heard that some are really difficult. Can anyone tell me what the hardest major is in university? And why is it considered so hard?

The difficulty of a major can vary widely depending on an individual's aptitudes, interests, and the specific curriculum of the major at a given school. However, some majors are widely recognized as being particularly rigorous.

One such major often cited for its difficulty is Engineering, which includes specializations like Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, and Civil Engineering, among others. These majors are recognized for their strenuous workloads and difficult course content, requiring strong skills in mathematics, physics, and problem-solving. Engineering majors typically require a large number of credit hours in highly technical courses, often necessitating more time studying outside the classroom.

Another high-difficulty area is the Physical Sciences, like Physics or Chemistry. These majors demand a strong understanding of complex theories and concepts, rigorous lab work, and the ability to perform complex calculations. The depth and breadth of knowledge required can make these majors quite challenging.

Yet another area often cited for its rigor is Medicine or Pre-Medicine tracks, as these require a heavy load of science coursework, including biology, organic chemistry, physics, and more, all requiring significant study time and understanding of multifaceted biological and chemical processes.

Keep in mind, however, that the "difficulty" of a major can depend heavily on one's individual strengths and interests. For example, someone who excels in art and struggles with math might find a Fine Arts major more engaging and less difficult than Engineering, even though the latter is often ranked as more difficult in general. Ultimately, you should consider your own abilities, interests, and career goals when choosing a major, rather than just looking at how easy or difficult it is considered to be.
