Military Branch Reputations?

I hear a lot of varying opinions about the 'reputation' of different military branches. Which factors typically contribute to these reputations, and how much should I factor them into my decision?

Historical impact can play a big role in shaping the reputation of a branch. For example, the Navy SEALs or the Army's Green Berets have a reputation for undertaking high-risk, high-value missions, which has enhanced their reputation for bravery and skill.
