What are some of the most challenging classes at the University of Iowa?

I'm a high schooler considering University of Iowa for college. I'm naturally curious and I love a challenge, so I'd like to know what I might be signing up for. Can anybody who's attended this university let me know what some of the toughest classes there are, and why? Thanks!

The perceived difficulty of courses at the University of Iowa, like any other university, can vary greatly depending on your major, your personal strengths, and the professors teaching the courses. That said, there are certainly some classes that have a reputation for being particularly rigorous.

1. Organic Chemistry (CHEM:2210 and CHEM:2220): These are well-known to be very challenging due to the sheer volume of information involved, the abstract nature of the content, and the problem-solving skills required. You need to dedicate a good amount of time to understand, practice, and memorize the complex structures and mechanisms.

2. Biochemistry (BIOC:3120): Similarly to Organic Chemistry, students tend to find the abstract nature and huge volume of information challenging to keep up with. This course involves learning complex biological structures and processes at the molecular level.

3. Engineer Math II: Multivariable Calculus (MATH:1560): This class is seen as tough due to the level of mathematical and abstract reasoning required. The topics, particularly integration, demand a strong grasp of calculus.

4. Introductory Physics II (PHYS:1612): This is a notoriously difficult course because it requires a strong understanding of calculus and physics concepts like electromagnetism.

5. Human Anatomy (HHP:1100): This course requires a lot of memorization as students need to know many intricate details about the human body.

Remember, the key to managing tough classes is to make use of the resources available to you, including office hours, study groups, tutoring centers, and academic advisors. Don't be discouraged by a challenging class, as it will only offer you more opportunities to learn and grow! Cheers to your spirit of taking up challenges.
