Advice on the best colleges in California

I'm a high school junior commencing my college search. There are so many good colleges in California - it's almost intimidating. Can anyone share their experiences or advice on choosing the best ones?

Choosing the "best" college is subjective and depends on factors unique to you such as your career goals, major interests, financial situation, and cultural fit among other things. It's crucial to research each school's programs of interest, its culture, location, and financial aid opportunities. The goal is to settle for a college where you'll thrive academically and socially.

If you're interested in STEM or agricultural field, California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena and University of California--Davis are particularly well-known. Stanford also has a strong reputation in STEM fields, but is equally well-regarded in subjects like English, History, and the arts.

If you're considering liberal arts colleges, Pomona College and Claremont McKenna College are both part of the Claremont Colleges consortium, allowing students to take classes and use resources at five colleges located next door to each other.

For those interested in film, television, or the performing arts, the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles has a top-rated film school and the performing arts university CalArts, founded by Walt Disney, is nearby.

For public universities, don't forget the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) systems. They have campuses all over the state, so you have many options depending on location preference and programs of interest.

Remember, the best college for you is the one that aligns with your personal and academic goals. Californian colleges and universities are diverse in terms of size, location, and specialisms, so there's something for everyone. Explore and do well in your research! Good luck!
