Why should I consider Georgia Southern University?

I recently came across Georgia Southern University in my search of colleges but can't figure out why it could be a good fit for me. Anyone here who can tell me about its unique features? How's the student life, diversity, academic rigor and overall environment?

Georgia Southern University is a public research institution known for being student-focused and committed to providing practical experiences along with academic rigor. It has campuses across the state of Georgia, the largest ones being in Statesboro, Savannah, and Hinesville, which can be attractively diverse to those wanting to explore different areas of the state.

Academically, Georgia Southern offers a wide array of undergraduate and graduate degrees across various colleges. Particularly, their programs in Business (especially Logistics), Nursing, and Engineering are rated highly and have strong reputations. It's worth noting that the learning environment promotes inquisitive thinking, practical problem-solving, and collaborative working.

One unique feature is their ambitious Quality Enhancement Plan, known as "Exploration Day", where classes are suspended one day each semester to allow students to take part in professional development, community service, research presentations, and other co-curricular activities. It's unusual for a university to commit a day per semester to this kind of wide-scale student engagement.

The overall student community is quite vibrant, with over 300 student clubs and organizations, including Greek Life. This ensures numerous avenues for friendships, leadership roles, and opportunities to pursue diverse interests. From sports clubs to academic honor societies to cultural groups, Georgia Southern does a good job of ensuring there's a niche for every student.

Lastly, Georgia Southern is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment. They maintain the Office of Multicultural Affairs dedicated to fostering diversity and inclusion through educational and cultural initiatives.

In terms of location, the main campus is in Statesboro, a small college town setting which offers the close-knit community aspect and strong school spirit that many students appreciate. Savannah and Hinesville offer coastal city surroundings for a change of pace, so there's diversity in experiences just on the basis of location.

In summary, Georgia Southern may be of interest to you if you value a range of academic programs, practical learning experiences, and a vibrant student life, all under the umbrella of a university committed to diversity and inclusivity.
