Campus Life at Loyola University Maryland

Hey there, I've been looking into Loyola University Maryland for a while now and I'm curious about what campus life is like over there. Is there a strong sense of community? How are the dormitories? I'd also like to know about their clubs or extracurriculars, if anyone knows anything about that. Thanks in advance!

Loyola University Maryland has a strong sense of community due in large part to its Jesuit affiliation. Their mission of forming "students who are challenged to learn, lead, and serve in the diverse and changing world" translates into a caring, committed, and involved student body. With around 4,000 undergraduates, the school's size is conducive to students forming tight-knit relationships with their peers.

As for the dormitories, the majority of students live on-campus all four years, which really fosters the sense of community. First-year students typically live in one of the first-year residence halls: Butler and Hammerman, Campion Tower, Hopkins Court, or Thea Bowman Hall. Sophomores have the option to live in apartment complexes, and juniors and seniors can choose from a variety of apartments and townhouses on or near campus. Most accommodations come fully equipped with kitchen facilities, and all dorms have study lounges.

Regarding clubs and extracurricular activities, Loyola University Maryland has over 150 student clubs and organizations, ranging from service groups to special interest clubs, and academic societies to athletic teams. Whether you're interested in Radio Broadcasting (participating in WLOY, the school radio station), joining the Corridors literary magazine, advocating for environment sustainability through the Environmental Action Club, or engaging in community service through the Center for Community, Service, and Justice (CCSJ), there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. Many students say participating in these clubs greatly enrich their college experience and contribute to the sense of community on campus.

Remember, different students will have various perspectives on campus life depending on their interests, so it may also be worthwhile to connect with current students or recent alumni to get an even more in-depth picture of campus life at Loyola.
