Does anyone know anything about New College of Florida?

I've recently heard about New College of Florida and it sounds like a pretty cool place, does anyone know what campus life and the overall student experience is like there? Thanks for helping me out.

New College of Florida is known for its small class sizes and personalized education. Since it is a public liberal arts honors college, students have the opportunity to design their own curriculum, which allows students a high degree of flexibility in their coursework.

That being said, campus life at New College is quite unique. The school promotes a tight-knit community with its residential college experience - most students live on-campus in dorms or apartments and there are frequent on-campus events and activities. The waterfront campus on Sarasota Bay also offers many opportunities for outdoor activities, such as sailing and kayaking, among others.

One defining feature of the student experience at New College is its academic structure. Rather than traditional grades, New College uses narrative evaluations. Students and professors hold conferences at the end of each semester to discuss progress and strategies for improvement, rather than assigning letter grades. This promotes a more collaborative and comprehensive approach to learning.

New College also has a tradition called Independent Study Projects (ISPs). These are month-long projects done in January where students can do in-depth research, internships, or creative projects under the supervision of a professor. It's a great way to truly explore and go deep into an area of interest.

However, due to its unique nature and small size, New College may not be for everyone. It tends to attract independent-minded, self-driven individuals. Moreover, if you are looking for a college with a big sports scene or traditional Greek life, you may not find that at New College.

In terms of location, New College is situated in Sarasota, Florida, which is a relatively small city but with plenty to offer. There are beautiful beaches nearby, a vibrant art scene with galleries and museums, and the Sarasota Film Festival, which students often participate in and attend.

In summary, New College offers a unique, personalized education. It could be a great fit if you're looking for small class sizes, academic flexibility, and a close-knit community, but it may not be the best fit if you're looking for a traditional college experience with a big sports presence or an extremely large student population.
