Choosing between Pittsburgh Universities: Pittsburgh University Johnstown Vs. Pittsburg Kansas University

Hey y'all! My counselor introduced me to both Pittsburgh University Johnstown and Pittsburg Kansas University. I'm kinda torn. What sets these universities apart? If you could choose, which one would you pick and why?

The choice between the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown (UPJ) and Pittsburg State University in Kansas (PSU) largely depends on what you're looking for from your college experience.

Geographically, Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and Pittsburg, Kansas, offer rather different environments. Johnstown is nestled between mountains, providing an excellent site for outdoor activities - a significant plus if you're a lover of nature or outdoor sports. Pittsburg, Kansas, on the other hand, is located closer to larger cities like Kansas City, making it a good choice for someone looking for a small-town feel with relatively easy access to city amenities.

UPJ, as a branch of the larger University of Pittsburgh network, provides students with a small-college atmosphere backed up by the resources of a larger research university. It may be suitable if you are looking for an intimate learning environment coupled with wider research opportunities. On the other hand, PSU, despite being a smaller public university, is renowned for its specific strengths in education, automotive technology, proud athletics, and applied sciences.

In terms of academics, it would help to know your prospective major or area of interest. Different schools have different strengths. For instance, UPJ is known for its engineering and nursing programs, whilst PSU is noted for education and business.

Lastly, the student life at each of these schools is different, with varied extracurriculars and community involvement opportunities. UPJ offers a variety of clubs and organizations, as does PSU. PSU, however, is known for its Gorilla tradition and strong emphasis on school spirit.

Ultimately, the choice would depend on what you're looking for in terms of location, academic possibilities, and school culture. You might want to think about visiting both campuses or attending virtual tours if you haven't already, as this can give you a much better insight into what it would be like to study there.
