What exactly do you do in National Honor Society?

I just got an invite to join my school's chapter of NHS, and I'm curious about what activities and commitments it involves. Can someone who's been a part explain what kind of projects you get involved in? Does it take up a lot of time? Is it mostly community service, or are there leadership opportunities too?

Congratulations on your invitation to the National Honor Society (NHS)! Your involvement can differ from chapter to chapter, but generally, it includes a blend of community service projects, leadership opportunities, and sometimes academic activities. Some students are involved in tutoring programs, organizing charity events, and even officer positions within the chapter which provide them with valuable leadership experience.

The time commitment varies between students; some weeks may be busier than others, especially leading up to big events or service projects. Nevertheless, many students find it to be a rewarding experience, as it allows them to give back to the community, build a strong network within the school, and develop skills that are beneficial for college applications.

NHS membership is also an excellent opportunity for you to demonstrate your commitment to service and leadership—both of which are appealing to colleges. Just remember to balance your time effectively with your other responsibilities and commitments!
