Experience with online schooling—is it a good idea in high school?

So here's the deal—I've been considering switching to online schooling cause of personal reasons, but I'm kinda worried about how it might look to colleges. Does anyone have experience with exclusively online high school programs? What's it like compared to traditional school setups, and do you feel like it's prepared you well for college? Any thoughts on this would be really helpful!

Hello there, your concerns are perfectly valid, and it's great you're considering all aspects before making a decision. Some students opt for exclusively online high school programs, and many find these programs to be flexible and self-paced, which is excellent if you have other commitments or need a particular learning environment.

That being said, it's essential to ensure the program is accredited and has a rigorous curriculum equivalent to traditional schools. Colleges will be interested in the depth and rigor of your coursework regardless of the mode of instruction.

Students from online schools can be just as prepared for college as their peers from traditional schools, if not more so in some aspects like time management and self-discipline. Additionally, some students benefit from the personalized attention they can receive in an online setting.

When it comes to college admissions, be prepared to explain why you chose online schooling and how it’s significant to your personal and educational journey. It's not necessarily a negative in the eyes of college admissions if you can demonstrate that you've used your online schooling to your advantage, engaged in meaningful extracurricular activities, and maintained strong academic performance. Remember, it's about what you make of the experience. Best of luck!
